Like Driving a Car in Medical Scences
The area that I teach in is Medical Sciences and with these courses come a lot of material and concepts that students need to learn. Often times, I forget that student may not have learned the skills needed to study effectively or effectively manage their time. When students attend many Medical Science courses, they often feel overwhelmed with assignments and material along with not knowing the most effective studying techniques that work for them. Many times, courses move fast and can continue to build on materials taught in other classes. If students fall behind they may feel overwhelmed and not be able to catch up, therefore doing poorly in their classes. I try to start off the courses with the students identifying their assignment due dates and having them set a schedule for when to complete each of their tasks for all their courses. I also try to have students review a variety of study techniques leading up to a text or exam to ensure that they have the proper tools to succeed.
