I found this image through a Creative Commons search using Google. This image represents a strong analogy with enzyme action. It explains the significance of the active site and how the match between the active site and substrate is important for any biological reaction. In the first step, there is a perfect match between the lock and key, and the reaction occurs. In the second case, there is no matching between the lock and key, and therefore, there is no reaction. The same concept applies to our body’s enzymes. Only a specific enzyme can work on a specific substrate, making the reaction possible. If there is no match between the enzyme and the substrate then there is no reaction.
