I work in the medical sciences and often times in upper year courses, we expect the students to have some prior knowledge to work off of with many concepts in our classes. Within our courses, we have students come with the basic understanding of biological processes and we tend to want to apply these concepts to novel diseases and research areas.

Sometimes we touch on some major scientific topics that may be in the news or be controversial online. Many times, students may come to classes that touch on these types of concepts with misinformation they read online. This misinformation may lead to confusion and misunderstanding on topics covered in classes. A way to mitigate this would be to have correct information online available to the students and direct them on where to watch videos/ podcasts/ primary literature.
