I saw this image posted on Face Book for a wonderful local market farm and bakery and thought how teaching is very similar to being a mother.

As teachers we have probably all thought to ourselves ‘I’m not your mother’ when dealing with some of the issues our students have.  The reality for me is that teaching kitchen and bath design is very much like mothering.  I have a particular knowledge that I am passing on to my students.  Much like this grandmother showing her grandson the ins and outs of making a pie crust, my students start out messy with their bathroom & kitchen designs.  And then, it’s up to me to show them how to draw within the lines,  how to clean up the messes and encourage them to then think outside of those lines to be creative and forge their own paths in the industry.
