Misunderstood – Learning
In Academic Upgrading we frequently have students who do not know how to learn or how they learn best. Many may not have a proper learning toolkit and think that learning is passing tests and regurgitating information.
When first meeting with students and discussing their personal experiences, I would compare learning to growing a garden.
When growing a garden, you plant a seed and with proper nourishment, light, and water and it can grow into something wonderful. This is the same as with learning, finding something that is of personal interest to you can lead to many discoveries.
Sometimes plants do not survive, these are setbacks and a chance to discover something new or make a change. Finding what works best for a plant to thrive, is the same as discovering what works best for your personal learning. What works for one plant may not work for another, and that is ok!
