My Metaphor
Teaching as a Metaphor
The teacher as a coach metaphor speaks to me. A good coach teaches their players how to practice, manage their time, work with their teammates, and handle adversity. To bring that analogy to teaching, a good teacher teachers their learners how to apply the material, manage their time/workload, work with fellow learners (and their teacher), and how to handle challenges.
A strong coach provide feedback and encouragement as do strong teachers. A good coach creates a shared vision/goal and the same could be said for a good teacher. A coach helps players feel responsible for their contribution with a mindset of progress and collaboration as does a teacher.
The goal for both coach and teacher is to collaborate/share the responsibility with players/learners to find the answers within themselves (using various outside methods), and improve their performance over a period of time.
