Teaching in health systems management and among the many concepts that must be communicated is type of healthcare system. In general national versus private pay. From this, one of the misconceptions with my learners tend to be the difference between Canada’s ‘universal’ health system and other countries ‘national’ health system. In most applications, universal healthcare is managed by provincial & territorial jurisdictions but operate on guidelines of the federal government. On the contrary, national healthcare is one that is fully governed by the government. Over the years, the justification of the misconception is that some view the application in a similar manner – universal and national. In some circumstances, it is perhaps of their existing knowledge and/or viewpoint. To reduce this misconception, I have attempted to illustrate how a similar service is covered across different regions. This tends to be done with choosing similar services and work through how it is covered in different regions/jurisdictions.

Example for "National or Healthcare":
