Operating a boiler is like driving a car in many ways

A boiler needs water just like a car needs gas.

A boiler needs to purge before lighting off while a car need to warm up before driving off.

Turning the key on in a car is like hitting the ignition/start switch on the boiler.

Once started a boiler will fire until it reaches a set point while you may hit the gas on a car until you reach operating speed and then add more or less gas from there to keep your speed.

To operate a car safely you must anticipate what other drivers are doing while as a boiler operator you must anticipate what your steam users are doing and think ahead.
