WIIFM…. Like an onion, I think there are several layers to this thought for my students. I teach a very technical course with specific job outcomes.
Here are some of th
- At the end, a solid job is in it for students
- The things they are being taught are required to get certified to have said job so certification is in it for them
- Passing the program is required to even be eligible to write the certification exam, successful grades mean they pass the program
- Learning new skills or refining them is in it for them. Not many other places can train them to the same standard
- Curiosity is in it for them – my students already have a lot of academic success and are often life long learners by heart
- Personal satisfaction – students want to do well and that drives them in many ways
