Sharing My SoTL research plan
Write a reflective response.
I was new to this topic and didn’t know what to expect. My curiosity drove me through the module. I visited every single link mentioned in this module out of curiosity to learn more about this topic. Eventually, I was a point where I felt ready and excited to make my own SoTL plan
My research question concerns an evaluation activity students do in my course. There are 5 discussion posts in my course that students have to do. Even before this module, I have been keen to know how students perceive these activities and their impact on their learning.
SoTL Questionnaire- Rate your level of understanding of the topic before and after doing the discussion activity, on a scale from 0-5 with 0 being the lowest, 5 being the highest.
Does your interest in the topic improve after doing a discussion post? (Answer collected on a scale of Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree)
Would you like to see discussion posts on more topics? (Answer collected as Yes, Maybe, No)
Any other feedback you would like to share w.r.t to the discussion post activity? (Answer collected as a short comment)
Prior research included understanding SoTL by visiting the links in this module, identifying the research topic, working on the questionnaire, ensuring ethical concerns are acknowledged and addressed, planning the time for SoTL in class.
Dissemination –
Once I am done analyzing the results, I will prepare a brief report about my SoTL. I am planning to use both quantitative and qualitative scales for different questions. I can then share the feedback I receive through these as part of my report. I will share the findings with other Professors in my cohort who are teaching the same course. This should help me convince them to make the changes based on the SoTL outcome.
