Well, one of the best metaphors coming to my mind is that of the Sherpas, who help mountaineers from around the globe climb Mount Everest. Likewise, we teachers help our students reach their goal of successfully meeting the course learning outcomes. Journey begins by showing our students the “Beckoning Summit”, by creating a vision for the students to motivate them along the journey. We act like the “Guide on the side” and a “Servant Leader” to propel our students onwards in the direction of the summit/ goal. We coach, guide, support, encourage, hold hands and much more as necessary. We pave the way with useful supports, check-points and feedback, just like the sherpas pave the way, fix ladders and tie climbing ropes before the start of the climbing season each year, as we do each semester.
