Teaching math and drug calculations
This is where things get REAL. Following equations, or learning the process of changing a drug such as an opioid to another – big challenge at times for my learners. I walk them through the process, but is is like driving a car. Math was never my strong suit – now I have to teach it and explain it. I think it is important for students to understand there is more that one way to do an equation, but also the right answer is imperative – we are calculating drugs and if could hurt a person if the answer is wrong. What I also say here is trust you gut – if it seems like too much or too little – the answer is probably incorrect. AND – have someone check your WORK! We’re a team.
