As much as I try to review and expand my teaching philosophy (PS I’ve never taken a philosophy course in my life), I hang on this quote from Christa McAuliffe who was a teacher first, then a Space Participant (aka the first teacher in space).
She said “I touch the future, I teach”. Here is her story told by her students and now teachers:

To answer the University of Waterloo question “When I teach I:”
When I teach I think about the future. Not only where is this course going but primarily I think about the students’ futures. Where will this course/content/experience take you? What doors will it open (next course, next program/degree, career aspirations)? Teaching, when I consider I am affecting the future through the education of my students and their impacts on the world, is a huge honour and responsibility and like the model of Christa McAuliffe, I teach to touch the future.
