The Staircase
This image outlines the pathway of a student. As an educator, the staircase shows larger pieces of learning as a baseline with gradual progression towards the goal of learning.
The staircase is structured in a format equivalent to teaching. The pathway isn’t smooth, it can have it’s highs and lows but the “aha” moment or light bulb as showin in the image to get there is when students finally grasp that concept. In my teaching, when explaining a concept and building those skills to create a competent technologist, it is so gratifying when students understand the concept and have that “aha” moment to connect the dots.
Personally, teaching is a step by step process. Students get discouraged when information is provided in large chunks rather than small steps in their learning process. By creating a structured approach and planning out the concept they will be learning, we can build the skill gradually and foster a journey of learning in a manner that empowers students to realize their potential.
