Three Keys of SoTL
Identify Three Characteristics of SoTLK that resonate with your professional experience and practice:
- Africa is often underexplored in teaching prior to post-secondary levels, making students’ awareness of the continent and its people almost abstract. How can I bring Africa to life, celebrate its people, and share the hunger to learn more and dig deeper in my students?
- What methods can I use to excite learners and turn the abstract into the real? What has worked in the past and what will continue to be applicable?
- How can I ethically gather data to continually refine this experience, and in turn publish results in a way that encourages my colleagues to step away from traditional forms of teaching?
Motivations:
- New digital innovations that are exciting to colleagues and learners alike, and new ways to use technology to disseminate learning.
- Continue to bring greater awareness of Africa and the African diaspora to students who previously were unaware of it or had misinformed ideas which have perpetuated harmful ideologies or stereotypes.
- Uniting strategies for Teaching and Learning with my research to enhance engagement.
