Vulnerability & Self-care ‘nugget’
For this activity, I chose the Vulnerability & Self-care article (https://openfacultypatchbook.org/self-care/patch-thirty-eight-vulnerability-and-self-care/). It resonated with me because of the devastation the travel industry has faced due to the pandemic also has an effect on students considering joining the industry and on the faculty teaching within related programs. The passage that stood out to me is, “it is a moment-by-moment choice to take care and show kindness to myself in hopes I’ll be better positioned to share kindness and care for the people around me”. I feel that, as the educator I need to lead by example and show not only care for others but demonstrate kindness to myself. The industry faces a long road to recovery and teaching students how to frame their journey with self-care in mind will set them up for career longevity. I decided to try out Powtoon (link provided to animation) to illustrate the trickle-effect of teaching self-care as it will effect them later in their careers.
