What’s in it for me?

When considering the “What’s in it for me?” (WIIFM) perspective from a student point of view, I inquired with students during our initial class about their motivations for pursuing their BScN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) education. The responses I gathered aligned closely with my expectations. The primary reason cited by students was a desire to expand their knowledge, thereby enhancing their capacity to provide care for acutely ill patients. Other recurrent responses included the aim to enhance critical thinking skills, build upon their existing knowledge base, foster a commitment to lifelong learning, secure a higher income, achieve a longstanding personal goal, and reevaluate and refine their skills.

However, students also expressed concerns regarding potential challenges they anticipate encountering. These challenges encompassed various aspects, including technology, particularly for those who have been away from formal education for an extended period. Time commitments emerged as a common concern, with students grappling to balance their educational pursuits with other obligations such as family responsibilities, caring for aging parents, maintaining employment, and effective time management.

    I do a survey before the class which lets me know what the students want to learn from the course .I then incorporate it in the lessons
