Whats In it for Me
Within the Management Accounting course, I have had significant issues with engaging students especially with students attending class. It would seem that for many the only WIFM that matters is a mark meaning if you are not marking attendance or having an in class assessment they will not attend class.
That said, there are many WIFM teachings from the course that I do mention and highlight. They include:
- Required part of your diploma / degree – you have to be here
- Become a better decision maker; what is relevant information and what is not; how to weigh options
- Gain an understanding of what costs are; how you determine costs; how you determine price for example, when shopping, which alternatives have the lowest cost
- Become better at budgeting; understanding how to manage your money which translates into how to manage your business money better
- Understand the application of concept not just what the concept through in class exercises
- Learn how to understanding and self reflect in your own business
- Understand where to focus your attention
- Gain an deep understanding of business; what is working, what is not
