TESL students are learning how to teach English as a second language. TESL students with another first language, who learned English as teenagers or adults, actually have an easier time with the pedagogical grammar section of the program than students who grew up speaking English all their lives. Moving from intuitively applying the acquired systems of English to being able to describe and exemplify grammatical structures of English is hard work, and it is intimidating, especially for those students who had bad experiences with grammar in school.

How do I motivate a tense group of TESL students on the first day of class and throughout the semester?
