As a professor in early childhood education we examine internal (intrinsic) and external (extrinsic) motivation from the perspective of young children. I often then refer back to themselves as students or learners. Do you participate and complete al the learning task as part of the learning process or just do something for the grade? Also referred to as the process verse the product.
Reflective practice is a skill and disposition I model and teach the students
So when a student balks at group conversations or discussion posts I remind them of the value of multiple perspective, the need to rethink and consider strategies and approaches. Finally focusing on enjoying the process of learning NOT just the product. Much like we are doing for this module.
