Before I can ask the class for any intepretations of economic trends, reasoning for equilibrium pricing, or what policies may have impacted the market, I must consider the graphing knowledge base of the students who are enrolled. They may have not seen graphs in twenty years, or they may have relied fully on a graphing calculator for creation or analysis of graphs until this point. Rarely have students had the opportunity to apply whatever level of graphing expertise they have to digesting economic concepts. The attachment shows the possible disparity between what I’d like to jump into in discussion versus what we need to be comfortable with first.
