Class is like the gym

The image I have attached is one that I actually use in my very first class when I “sell” the content to my students. I view my job as a trainer, and they can participate as much or as little as they like, but that will affect their results (their “psychology muscles”). When they come to class, they are “working out” but when they go home they have to stay “healthy” and make good “food choices” (doing their readings and homework). I also tell students that they have pre-paid for 14 training sessions (14 weekly classes) and that if they don’t show up to the gym, it’s a waste of money. Also, if they just show up to the gym and don’t pay attention/actively participate, their muscles won’t grow.

I think using this metaphore/example really makes sense to them because the health piece is something they can really related to.
