Consider This: Gender
For this assignment, I wanted to try a vague term to see what each source would curate. I picked the term “Gender” as it’s a topic in my classes this week. I wanted to be able to display either the flaws in perceiving gender as a binary, or to introduce the variety and diversity behind gender.
In one of the sources, I tried to use Boolean operators to help my search so I added gender AND diversity, and unfortunately came up with no results. I liked the layout and simplicity of the Creative Commons Search but I found the best results on Unsplash. I selected the attached image and would use it to prompt student conversation. I would ask if they’ve ever seen a sign like this, and if they could like of a better way to display the same information. Maybe I could even expand the conversation and have students use the images banks to find something more relevant.
