I created Cornell notes while watching the keynote presentation for the Digital Pedagogy Institute conference.

I recently tried a new approach in one of my library instruction sessions called collaborative note taking. It’s where you use a shared document as a way for a class to take notes together. It takes a bit of prompting, but soon the students get the hang of it and most help contribute to a really helpful takeaway document that can be used later as a reference point for my sessions. I’d like to try incorporating some of the techniques in Cornell note taking into this collaborative model. I especially like the summary section and a place to put key ideas and important questions. I could see using the summary section as an opportunity for reflection and feedback as well (sort of like a one minute paper). This was a great technique to be exposed and I look forward to incorporating elements of it into my instruction!
