Cross cultural elective syllabus concept map
This concept map demonstrates the content of the course, and the connections between and within the main concepts in the course. For example: pre-departure training is required prior to undertaking the experiential component of the course, but the content within the predeparture training module also serves to enhances cultural awareness, the ethics of travel, and the importance of cultural humility. And this content is intimately associated with another main concept which is cultural competency. Being self-aware, and having cultural knowledge, skill, and having an understanding of cultural dimensions will enhance students’ ability to be an ethical traveler. Having an understanding of Global health, and the influence of the social determinants on the health of a country, being able to assess population health and the factors influencing it, also enhances our ability to be cultural aware/competent. This concept maps demonstrates the interdependency of each of the main course concepts.
