I created an empathy map based on what I heard from my students in a French grammar course. In this course, students complete short learning activities on the publisher’s online platform, in addition to weekly online assessments on the university’s LMS. The class meets weekly for the instructor to explain grammar points and complete practice exercises. There is an additional bi-weekly lab class for oral practice. I gathered information from students regarding their experience taking the course and organized their feedback in the empathy map. Though I have to admit that I am having difficulties differentiating “hear” and “see,” whereas the distinction between “feel/think” and “say/do” was more apparent. Nonetheless, the information I gathered helped me identify some concrete pain and gain points that will help me improve my students’ learning experience.
