  1. Renewed excitement about teaching and learning, and greater self-awareness. – In my case it’s not even renewed excitement as it’s just excitement. I’m excited to get started, to experiment, to share, to reflect – and then do it all again!
  2. Useful data for assessments, program reviews, retention strategies, and accreditation processes. AND Opportunity for outside funding to support program innovation. – I don’t love that we live in a “prove it with numbers” kind of world, but we do and having research based pedagogy helps with funding and accreditation.
  3. Stronger institutional values on teaching and learning. – The rise of populism has fostered a distrust in institutions of higher learning.  Engaging with teaching and learning as a scholarship may help to affirm the importance of lifelong learning.
