I teach project management in a graduate certificate program which means all the students have some combination of previous post-secondary education and work experience which may or may not include project management.  So my challenge in curating materials is to find different levels – for beginner, intermediate and experienced – so that there is something for all the students.

For more advanced materials, I searched all the listed general repositories for Project Management with limited success.    Of the  discipline specific repositories, I only searched Business (MIT Sloan School) – I will use this repository in the future for class prep and may find materials for the students to use.

For this activity, I focused on project procurement.  Through the project procurement course, we use buying a car to illustrate key concepts in project procurement.  So I looked for materials that would help the students relate buying a car to the project procurement process.

  • Community Transportation Association of America. (2001). VEHICLE PROCUREMENT. Retrieved from University of Kansas Transportation Center: https://kutc.ku.edu/sites/kutc.ku.edu/files/docs/pdf/rtap_vehicleproc.pdf
    • Although this article is directed to “community transportation providers”, it is also relevant to buying a vehicle for personal use.  And the five basic steps for effective vehicle procurement provide a framework for project procurement that can be adapted to any project procurement.

After I found this  reference, changed my search strategy because the other materials I found were focused on accounting and finance and found the following two references.  I would actually present these references first because they are more relatable to buying a car for personal use and then introduce “VEHICLE PROCUREMENT” because it highlights a process that can be used and adapted for project procurement.
