I thought there were lots of metaphors from “Exploring your teaching philosophy: sample exercises” from the University of Waterloo that resonated with me. However, I found that I wasn’t all of those all of the time. It depended on the course I was teaching (who was I teaching, what level was the course, what are the students wanting to learn from that course, etc.). I did however, think that the gardener metaphor fit me in any course that I teach.
