I am obviously missing something, since I found this activity frustrating.

Using what I learned in the boolean operation unit, I used all the sites suggested in the unit, in the instructions, google, and some suggested in previous activity posts, I began my search for:

  • interview clothes AND diversity
  • “interview” AND “clothes” AND “diversity”
  • “interview clothes” AND “diversity”
  • “business people”

and many other such variations.

However, most pictures were not relevant or seriously lacked diversity or lead me to istock, which requires payment to use. I was hopeful with google, but once I selected “creative commons licenses” as an option, my selection significantly decreased. Many images were silhouettes or vector graphics, while the photos did not provide full body shots.

So I switched to an image using “financial management” on unsplash.com.  The image is a metaphor for what is required when managing finances; it must be nurtured like a plant, which takes work, consistency and the right resources to grow and maintain. As far as diversity and inclusion, since it’s a plant and the money is coins, it contains imagery that everybody would have seen in some form or another, unlike an image with lots of large value dollar bill or images of the stock market or confusing graphs.

The artist gives her photos away for anybody to use (CC0), does not require credit (BY) and has no restrictions (NC, SA, ND). She provides a paypal link for anybody that would like to make a donation.
