In my math and statistics classes, I have students complete online quizzes, hosted on and auto-graded by the LMS, which count towards the students’ final grade. However, these quizzes are not enough practice for most students to fully master the course content. Most students require a significant amount of practice, especially those with weaker math skills, to really learn the concepts. I assign extra practice problems each week, usually from the textbook. Because these practice problems are not graded, most students do not complete them. For a lot of students this lack of practice has a detrimental impact on their learning, especially as the course progresses and concepts from earlier in the semester are required for later material.

How might I use technology to motivate students to complete at least some extra practice problems without the need for the problems to be graded?
