I’ve including an image here of lego blocks because I see teaching as providing tools and supplies so that learners can construct knowledge and their own understanding of the world. I like the metaphor of lego because it can be taken apart and reconstructed into something new to serve a new purpose. Each learner will come to a learning environment with their own experiences, context, and imagination, therefore constructing their own meaning from the material.

As I’m teaching or facilitating, I am constantly un-learning, co-learning and re-learning about the world. So, the lego blocks also represent my own journey as an educator. There will be lessons and interactions that take apart my own lego tower and with this new understanding, the pieces will take on a new shape. While some lego comes with a manual to follow, it can also be put together with imagination, creativity, and responding to a situation as it unfolds.
