Some of my students struggle with the self and peer evaluation portions of various assignments. I emphasize that those grades are based on honesty, reflection, and concrete examples to support the grade they have given and not based on their performance. However, the difference between what grade some students give themselves is often much higher than what they have earned and deserve. I explain that a student who did not perform well in the group but is honest, provides concrete examples of what occurred and reflects on their performance can still earn full marks. However, some of those students do not indicate they missed or were late to group meetings, missed deadlines and submitted incomplete work, yet give themselves an A grade.

Going forward, I will provide different examples of the difference between earning a grade for an overall assignment and earning a grade for a self and peer evaluation. My WordArt doesn’t show up for some reason please see attached for graphic.
