The PBL process is something that our students need to master, as it is part of every term of school for them, as well as a way of thinking that they should be engaged in on a day to day basis in practice.

The component skills are:

  1. Reading comprehension of a short case scenario.
  2. Identification of areas where more information is needed.
  3. Ability to determine what you know from the case, as well as what you don’t know. Asking questions about what is not there or not clear.
  4. Ability to create hypotheses to fill in the “I don’t know” gaps.
  5. Ability to develop research questions that can be searched to test hypotheses.
  6. Research and critical appraisal skills to find evidence-based data.
  7. Written and verbal communication skills to relay these findings.
  8. Synthesis skills to put together all the information available via case scenario and research for a more complete understanding of the client.
