I found an image on Unsplash.com to represent the new additions to my PLN. I found this activity especially challenging because it is abstract and not prescriptive. I do already have a Twitter account, but I do not use it primarily for networking. Instead, I use Facebook and even YouTube. Websites like Bandcamp or Spotify are also useful when building a network of musicians, as these platforms allow you to connect with individuals with professional releases (singles, EPs, CDs).

I found a quote online from Bono of U2 about music, “Music can change the world because it can change people”. I think this is especially relevant to this activity because it shows the potential power of the individual and how one connection can change your access to opportunity through your PLN. I like how the image shows someone from behind representing them looking into the future. The future in this image includes lights with images of instruments, showing how what we consume becomes part of who we become.

YouTube channels “Berklee Online”, “Tedx Talks” and “12tone” all have some useful academic music contenty directed towards songwriting or music composition. On Facebook I was able to find some organizations like the “Songwriters Association of Canada” (SAC), “Canadian Singer-Songwriters Network” as well as local groups like “Toronto Songwriters Association”. These are all excellent spaces to advertise my projects and network or connect with other artists in the industry.
