It was a challenge to get this document filed out because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about at first, perhaps because the possibilities are endless. I decided to focus on experiential learning because I personal believe in it. As a music major, it is important to engage with music (playing, listening) to understand it. I have not used reflective writing enough in my tutorials, so I thought this would be something worth investigating and thinking about for the future since the biggest challenge for most first year students is writing. I think in order to improve, you need several opportunities to practice it, so something like formative reflection could be a perfect opportunity for student to receive feedback and apply it to their graded work like papers and essays. The learning process is cyclical and as learners we need to make many mistakes and be given several chances for improvement in order to get the most out of the learning process. No one gets it perfect the first time! We should be building this scaffolding into our courses so that the heaviest weighted assignments have been broken down and practiced before students are expected to complete it.
