Resources for Supporting Curriculum Development
For this activity I focused on sourcing resources that would assist instructors in the curriculum development process. I searched all of the repositories listed, but found three that best suit my needs using eCampusOntario and Merlot.
Online Course Design for Humans – A Workbook:
Like our students, I benefit from access to various types of resources to solidify my learning (I learn by doing!), so I was excited when I came across this workbook. As course developers work their way through the workbook, they actually interact with the resource when submitting answers to various prompts provided throughout the text. It also provides ample time to reflect on the development process as they move from the ‘plan’ in step 1 to ‘reality’ in step 4. I appreciate that this resource focuses on online course development as that is our focus at this time.
CU Open – Module 4 Resources: Online Course Development
Another learning by doing resource – this online module highlights the stages of online course development while emphasizing the difference between online course development and face-to-face course development. The module also includes a video that outlines the core principles of developing an online course, which drew me to this resource as well – I always like having information depicted in various ways.
Anyone who has developed a course will be familiar with Bloom’s Taxonomy, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded. This interactive video outlines the stages of Bloom’s Taxonomy with a short quiz at the end. In my experience, seeing the hierarchy in image or video format helped me to conceptualize the different domains and understand how they relate to the different ways our students learn. I still remember receiving a Bloom’s Taxonomy flip chart in teachers college that helped me immensely with my lesson plans.
