In nursing we teach sterile technique which can be quite challenging.
I break it down into several steps which they must master before they do them all together
1. Opening and donning sterile gloves
2. Opening and adding to a sterile tray
3. Maintaining a sterile field (I give them activities that they have to do around the field so they can remember where they can and cant touch)
4. Have another student watch them to do the whole procedure-they must restart each time then make a mistake….most students master this skill
