The Pope Drip
This is an AI created image that was prompted in Midjourney. The author is listed as Midjourney/unknown as it is still hard to determine who should be credited as the author since a human created the prompt, but AI created the image. The image is in the public domain since it was not created by a human. This image was talked about a lot on social media platforms as it is an example of how convincing some AI generated images can be and could be used to further spread misinformation. It is an excellent and topical example that I can use in classes when talking about assessing and fact-checking information.
I already knew I wanted to use this image, so I used Wikimedia Commons to find it. I searched for puffy jacket pope and immediately found the image (since it is so popular right now). It’s interesting to see all the additional commentary about copyright and authorship since this is a new issue in copyright fields. The Wikimedia page could also be used as its own teaching resource to generate conversations amongst students.
