Originally I was looking for a challenge that was somewhat grande, but when I saw the “Rethink a course activity” and then “student created content” I remembered that I could start small and still significantly increase engagement.

I have a WHMIS activity that is to demonstrate to my learners the importance of labelling. They are provided with unknowns and must see if they can determine what the item is without smelling, tasting or directly touching the items. To revise this, learners will take a photo of an unknown from their own home and it will be incorporated into a presentation, which the entire class will have to guess what the item is. They will use their mobile devices (phone, tablet etc.) and I will encourage them to use the same device to access the app or website for our schools’ LMS to upload their photos into a dropbox.

During class each learner will be shown each of the unknowns and will complete the word or excel document (their choice) to input their answers then submit that to a dropbox. I then review all the unknowns and learners may shout out their answers and then I will give the correct answers.

Grades are provided for submitting their unknown and their answer doc. Correct answers are not required.

The attached has my completed copy of the “course redesign template” provided in the “rethink a course activity” challenge as well as the following links:
