An understanding of what an activity and resource is, is at the core of understanding what a LMS is.

  • An activity is similar to an assignment paper or quiz, that requires student input. This applies to all activities in Moodle.
  • Resources are equivalent to learning material like readings and PowerPoint slides that instructors can upload to the LMS for student reference as (PDF, Excel, Word, etc.) files.
  • Structuring and configuring these activities will better assist in determining student engagement and learning experiences. They would then need to understand how these activities trickle into the Gradebook setup that does the calculation for their total coursework mark.
  • Finally, based on the Gradebook setup, the instructor can plan/predict how grades are displayed in the Grader Report ( similar to a student’s physical progress report or report card) to the student.
