WIIFM – Accounting
The Introduction to Accounting class I am teaching is a part of continuing education program, all students are full time workers seeking to advance their current position.
During the brainstorming they all identified the goal of this course as to get or move to a better position within the business they are in right now. They need to demonstrate better knowledge of accounting and or/ business math in order to get an ” office job”. They found out that even knowing the terminology helps then to negotiate with the boss. However they were surprised to learn that there are differences in service and product accounting, which they also turned into their advantage. During the session we have discovered that the course needs to have more excel practice – as the students see it as a potential advantage to getting a bookkeeper / accounting assistant position. We have decided to make practice and assignments to be in excel.
As a result of the brainstorming students were presented with some statistical data ( attached) on the salaries increase in 2022. They found it useful in negotiating the next step up…
