WIIFM Activity
The value of any course or program changes based on the student. My student demographic is varied. Some students are forced into a program by parents so they can get a job but even that has not motivated some to work hard. Others have been laid off, decided to change careers for various reasons, or they work in the field and realize they have the potential to be a manager, just to name a few reasons.
Using my experience and from what my students have told me, the following is my WIIFM list:
- personal pride in being successful
- wanting to be able to get a better job for themselves and their family
- a passion for the content and wanting to learn more and then apply it in the field
- having a great manager and wanting to motivate and lead a team like them
- having a terrible manager and wanting to make changes at their workplace
- a way to show their parents that they can commit and complete something so they can actually pursue their real dream
- a stepping stone to becoming a dietitian
- using it as part of the foundation for further learning and/or education
- a desire to learn something new
- to brush up on content they once knew
