Why do I need to learn Baking if I want to be a chef? This is a constant debate with my culinary students.

  • Increases my career opportunities by two-fold
  • I will learn two skills instead of one.
  • Braising include a combination of both roasting (baking) and simmering (cooking)
  • By understanding baking, you will better understand dry cooking methods.
  • A better understanding of oven operations and modulating temperatures.
  • More precise with measuring ingredients, a task every cook dislikes.
  • Makes you unique because most Bakers can cook but not all cooks can bake.
  • To progress in your career you need knowledge of both areas of the kitchen.
  • Baking is a science and hence needs more precision, if this is applied to cooking a more standardized outcome can be achieved.
