My three activities:

  1. Testing Socrative as a new tool: https://bank.ecampusontario.ca/response/testing-socrative-as-a-new-tool/
  2. Recruiting Interest in Library Sessions: https://bank.ecampusontario.ca/response/recruiting-interest-in-library-sessions/
  3. Database Search Commands in Infographic Form: https://bank.ecampusontario.ca/response/database-search-commands-in-infographic-form/

Why these activities?:

Surveying: I’ve used similar tools in classes over the years, but hadn’t tried this Socrative before. I was curious to see how the competitive mode worked and it seems like it would be great at making interactions in larger classes more fun and engaging.

UDL Challenge Set – Recruiting Interest: I’m a guest speaker in a lot of classes so my time to connect with students is extremely limited. Gaining interest from students and connecting their experience and work to my lessons is crucial to furthering engagement and learning in such a restricted environment. I try to make my lessons as relevant as possible to course content and assignments, but I found it interesting and a new way to think about my content by relating it to the real world instead of keeping that context inside the classroom only.

Information as a Graphic: While I’ve made some infographics before, I hadn’t used Piktochart. I usually use the tool that happens to be available at the institution I’m working in at the time and this tool was never the selected tool by my institution or department. It works similarly to others, but I was glad I could try it out and see what different design options it has compared to other tools.

Tablet or Phone Experimenting:

While designing my Socrative quiz, I tested out my quiz on a mobile device. I don’t imagine ever using a tool like this to design through a mobile device, but I do try to test out any new tool I’m trying to see what students might experience if interacting on a phone instead of a laptop or computer. Socrative is clearly designed with this in mind (like other similar tools) so I was glad to see it worked really easily on a phone.

Video Submission:

I’ve decided to not complete this video portion of the module for privacy reasons. I have lots of experience making videos and other interactive video content through h5p so feel quite comfortable with that process.
