I used OneNote to draw four equivalent fractions, and giphy to string them all together 🙂 it does a nice job visually at showing that the fractions are equivalent.

Holy CRAAP! Tool Response
I think CRAAP is a great tool for educators and learners alike to consider their sources. Attached is my assessment.
Cornell Notes TED Talk Response
I watched a TED talk that I had bookmarked for myself a long time ago and never got around to watching. The talk was “Math for Informed Citizens” by David Kung. It was a very interesting examination of how we should be teaching future generations to question what’s in front of them, not just with more… »

Find Your Fit – Calculus Response
Many concepts in Calculus can be exemplified through real-world phenomena. I found that the discipline-specific repository from University of Colorado to be an excellent source of visuals, simulations, and games for displaying these concepts. Listed below are three that I particularly liked: The Projectile Motion intro allows us to trace the flightpath of any projectile more… »

Representing Word Problems with an Image Response
It’s no secret that most students despise doing applications, or “word problems”, as there isn’t much of an algorithm or step-by-step process that can be applied to solving them. They require a high ability to interpret information in English, translate that to math, use math to find what you’re looking for, and translate your answer more… »

Teaching Metaphor Response
I have a few core values that I try to portray as a teacher. I undoubtedly prefer the “Guide on the Side” approach to facilitating learning, compared to the “Sage on the Stage”. Aside from using student feedback to help guide lessons and giving them tools to learn material for themselves, I find it valuable more… »

Memorization is not a measure of understanding. Response
While scrolling through the patches to decide which one I would find interesting and relate to, I could tell right away from the title that Patch 3: “Sheets Ain’t Cheats” would be one that would resonate with me. While this past year definitely has created academic integrity challenges for some, one thing I loved is more… »

Quadratic Equations: Like driving a car Response
After successfully completing the typical high-school unit on quadratic equations, students may jump into the process of solving a quadratic equation automatically and without having to think about it. However, the steps are made up of so many smaller components, each one requiring its own understanding. To solve a quadratic equation (in particular, a quadratic more… »

WIIFM? Nursing Stats edition Response
I’ve taught the statistics course that students attending the Nursing program at my University are mandated to complete for quite awhile now. Even before my first time teaching the course, I had suspicions that I’d frequently have to answer the question “why do I have to take this course?” The nursing stats course at Lakehead more… »

Syllabus Concept Map for Calculus I Response
What a cool activity! Showing how the concepts in Calculus are related and build upon one another is a great way to deepen students understanding of the material.
